The 8 Items That Are A Must On Your Car Servicing Checklist

You don’t have to be a car geek to keep it running smoothly. The greatest challenge is knowing what needs to be done and how often it needs to be done in order to maintain your automobile in optimum condition. You can prevent your car from breaking down by learning the basics.

Another benefit is that if your car has been maintained well, you may get a higher offer when you want to sell it. And, of course, keep in mind that vehicle maintenance expenditures, while not always inexpensive, may help you save money in the long run by avoiding costly repairs.

Mike Patton Auto has compiled a car maintenance checklist of 8 items that are a must for maintaining your vehicle:

1. Check the oil and coolant levels

It’s a good idea to inspect both the oil and coolant levels in your car every month or before each gas fill-up, especially if you’ll be on a long drive. If either is low, it can cause engine issues. You should change your engine oil every 3,000 miles or as per manufacturer’s recommendations.

2. Air filter

The air filter in your car’s engine is what regulates the air that enters your engine and prevents dirt and particles from getting in. You can improve your fuel efficiency, decrease emissions, and extend the life of your engine by ensuring that your air filter is clean enough.

3. Tire pressure

Tire maintenance is vital for safety, fuel efficiency, and performance. Check the pressure in your tires every month and before long trips. Don’t forget about the spare tire. You’ll need a tire pressure gauge to check your tire pressure properly.

4. Oil & filter change

The oil in your car’s engine is responsible for a wide range of activities, such as lubricating the moving parts, acting as a barrier against particles, cooling the engine, reducing wear and tear, and preventing engine corrosion. You must keep it clean if you want your car’s engine to be healthy. The frequency of changing oil and filter depends upon the type of oil and the make and model of the vehicle. You may need to change it every three months or 3000 miles. Many newer vehicles recommend changing your oil between 5,000 and 10,000 miles. Check with a mechanic at Mike Patton Auto to determine what is best for your automobile.

5. Spark plugs

If your spark plugs are faulty, your engine will have reduced power and capacity as their function is to ignite the engine. Have a technician evaluate and replace any damaged spark plugs.

6. Serpentine belt

Your automobile’s serpentine belt is a complex piece of rubber that powers peripheral devices like the alternator, power steering pump, and air conditioner compressor. Examine the belt for cracks or other wear and tear. And replace it in case of damages.

7. Battery performance check

Your automobile’s battery is one of its most essential components. Extreme weather conditions may weaken its power, therefore do regular battery testing for maintaining its performance.

8. Wax vehicle

After washing your car, wax your vehicle every six months to keep it glossy and preserve its paint by minimizing the risk of rust. Many pollutants can build up over time, and external factors such as ozone and UV radiation cause microscopic damage. Car wax forms a protective layer on the body paint.
